The minimum amount that you can launch your Plutus account with is $40k. This initial requirement is in place to ensure a smooth experience as you begin automating your strategy.
We set this threshold for several key reasons:
Avoid PDT (Pattern Day Trading) Issues: Accounts that fall below $25k in value can be subject to Pattern Day Trading restrictions by regulators, which can interrupt automated rebalancing. A $40k launch minimum provides a healthy buffer to keep your account active.
Lower Commission Impact: Larger account balances help minimize the relative impact of commissions across your total portfolio value.
Strategy Requirements: This threshold helps accommodate the minimum investment amounts required at the individual Portfolio and Basket levels without restricting the majority of Portfolios and Baskets available on Plutus.
Maintaining Your Balance
Please note that if your account launches above $40k and subsequently falls below that amount due to market movements, we will not prevent rebalances or pause your account. The $40k figure is simply our requirement to set you live initially.
Portfolio Margin Accounts
We also support IBKR Portfolio Margin accounts. IBKR requires these accounts to maintain a minimum balance to avoid trading halts. To prevent service interruptions, Plutus requires a $150k minimum balance to launch Portfolio Margin accounts.
