Negative Cash Balance

Updated this week

Many Portfolios and Baskets on Plutus do not include a dedicated cash position and are fully allocated to investment positions. In these cases, it is common for account cash balances to hover near zero, either slightly above or slightly below.

A negative cash balance is an expected outcome of market fluctuations during the execution process when fully allocated to portfolios that don't have a cash balance.

  • Negative Balances: Negative cash balances charge interest at rates set by Interactive Brokers (IBKR). You can view their current margin rates here: Interactive Brokers Margin Rates

  • Positive Balances: Positive cash balances earn interest. You can review the Interactive Brokers (IBKR) interest rates here: Interactive Brokers Interest Rates

If you prefer to maintain a positive cash cushion, you can adjust your strategy allocation to a level below 100% (for example, 98% allocated with a 2% buffer). The unallocated portion of your strategy will be maintained as cash.
