In our Discover section, you may notice a Restricted badge on certain Portfolios and Baskets. This feature is designed to give you clear upfront visibility into how specific positions will execute based on your IBKR account type and domicile.
Why do some positions show as restricted?
Certain assets cannot be traded depending on where your account is based or the specific type of brokerage account you have:
US ETFs: Most accounts located outside the United States cannot execute trades for US ETFs.
PTPs (Publicly Traded Partnerships): US retirement accounts and most accounts located outside the US cannot execute trades for PTPs (for more info, please reference IBKR's article on PTPs)
How does the "Restricted" badge work?
When you browse Portfolios and Baskets containing positions that won't execute in your specific account, a small Restricted badge will appear next to the product's name.

Viewing Restriction Details
To understand exactly how much of a product is restricted, simply click on the Restricted badge. This will open a detailed trading restrictions view, showing the exact percentage of the product's gross exposure that cannot be traded by your account, along with the specific reasons why.

What happens if I allocate to a restricted product?
You are not prevented from allocating to Portfolios or Baskets that contain restricted positions.
The allowable positions will execute normally.
The restricted positions will be skipped, and that portion of your allocation will simply be left as cash in your account.
